Terry it's good to see you drop in. We had a thread like this about a week ago. Something along the lines of: Do you believe (in) the bible. You can try looking for it but I think the majority said no (paraphrasing as some made some good witty remarks indicating a negative).

WHY DO YOU INSIST on clinging to the Bible as anything other than fiction?
by Terry inhave you made the same effort investigating the history of how scripture was written down, compiled, redacted and selected as you did reinforcing your jw doctrines week after week at the kingdom hall?.
if you have; then you know it cannot be factual.. there have always been agendas.
the people with the agendas needed to wield power and using an invisible backup agent was a great device for controlling others.. somebody is always insisting they have an invisible and mysterious source of divine information and selling it like hotcakes and syrup.

Family members leaving JW's
by timothysmethport ini have a question for anyone that wants to respond.
what happens when a family member wishes to leave the jw religion for either another one or to take an ahteist belief?

I just don't understand how this can be benificial to a family life that the JW's strive for.
In my opinion, it isn't beneficial to family life only to keeping a tight control over members in this group which behaves very much like a cult.
You can spend an enormous amount of time trying to understand it but cruelty is not to be understood except by the cruel themselves....or the brainwashed.
I agree with the notion (often expressed in cult awareness books and elsewhere) that typically cults use shunning as a method of forcing the shunned one to succumb. Failing this at least the shunned one cannot share ideas which could liberate other cult members from their mind control which dominates their life and money.

Good question. Is it possible to give more details though? You see, there would likely be different outcomes depending on the status of the JW leaving. For example: Are they baptized in the JW cult or are they not baptized?

Is Jesus Christ and Michael the ArchAngel one and the same person?
by booker-t ini must admit that as a jw i never really swallowed this belief maybe because i was so young when i was really a staunch jw.
i would have born-again christians tell me that it was impossible for jesus and michael to be the same person and that jw's invented this doctrine.
fast forward to 2004 while i was reading a book on jesus i noticed that some of the early church fathers thought michael was jesus christ i almost fell out of my chair.

That's fairly obvious, isn't it, since they are one and the same person. "Jesus" is simply Michael's earthly name. Similarly, the names of other persons were changed. Abram was changed to Abraham. Sari (spelling ?) was changed to Sarah.
Interesting. Show me in the Bible where it says that God transplanted Michael into Mary' womb.

1942 they were still waiting for princes
by Haereticus ini found this somewhat amusing old passage:
?the lord jesus has now come to the temple for judgment, and the remnant of the members of ?his body?
yet on earth he has gathered into the temple condition of perfect unity with himself (malachi 3:1-3), and hence those faithful men of old may be expected back from the dead any day now.

Sometimes the things the WT writes is just so plain stupid or moronic that I wonder whether they are mocking their own flock.

Angel and Prince are very different designations. One is a heavenly messenger the other a ruler. Just like the American Ambassador to Great Britain is one man yet one of many Americans so Michael can be one Archangel and yet also be one of several Princes
By the same token he would be but one Ambassador in a world of many Ambasadors.
I do understand your points in general though and they are reasonable however the flipside of this is that you have said nothing thus far which proves that there is not more than one Archangel. The prefix arch in and of itself is widely used as a designation of importance but not exclusivity.
and Will Power I agree you on the literal stuff. The bible is full of examples which promote cruelty and violence. I certainly do not take it literally and I am sure my kids are happy for that fact.

Established was a bad choice of words. We have shown a good argument for it in my opinion.
Also: We already know that Daniel 10:13 says "But the prince of the kingdom of Persia opposed me twenty-one days. So Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, and I left him there with the prince of the kingdom of Persia..."
"One of" implies several. It is pluralized. Therefor the evidence points to several chief angels. Since arch=chief this line could also be written "Michael one of the Arch Angels" which would prove there are several since it is pluralized.
Also Leolaia made some good comments:
One problem ppl haven't mentioned yet is the fact that the term "archangel" doesn't occur at all in the OT. It didn't appear for the first time in the NT either. It gained a widespread usage in the intertestamental period, where it referred to the highest order of angels -- usually including Michael, Raphael, Gabriel, and Uriel.
